WHAT SCHOOLS ARE SAYING...

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Kimberly Hirsch for visiting the PJK Summer Learning Academy! Your time spent with our students from kindergarten through grade six was truly inspiring. The engaging read-alouds for our younger classes brought stories to life, while your insightful discussions on the writing process captivated our older students. Your passion for storytelling has ignited a love for writing in our young learners, and we’re grateful for the lasting impact you’ve made. Thank you for sharing your talent and enthusiasm with us.

Author, Kimberly Hirsch, delighted our fourth-grade students with her visit to J.K. Killam Elementary School.  She began by reading her book, Journey to the Bright Side, aloud to all our fourth graders.  She then presented her journey as an author, the inspiration for her stories, the process of idea to publication, and ended with exciting our students with the Easter eggs she had sprinkled throughout her book.   This grade-level presentation excited students and made them eager for her to visit our classroom for a writing workshop.

Kimberly's classroom lesson and visit engaged and excited all my students in the writing process.  Our lesson focused on "show, don't tell."  Students saw examples from Kimberly's books, were taught strategies for adding it to their own writing, and then tried it out themselves.  Students were eager to write and share their creations.  Our writing workshop flew by, and students were begging for more as Kimberly left for the next class.

Kimberly was an outstanding addition to our enrichment program.  She made all our Author in Residence dreams come true!  We are excited to welcome her back and make her visits an annual fourth-grade tradition.

Tonia McGuire, Fourth Grade Teacher

My students thoroughly enjoyed having Kimberly in our class this past year. She engaged every one of them from the moment she entered our class until the hour was up. She shared her story and showed my students some hidden secrets on each page. She told them about her desire to be an author at their age and how she did it. The students were truly captivated and inspired. After the visit, we read her next book and did some of the activities from the resource guide that she provided me. It was great!! The kids were eager to extend their learning and are excited for the next book to come out. This author definitely has earned a bunch of new 2nd grade fans over here!

Mrs. P, Grade 2

Kim Hirsch’s book talk was an unforgettable experience for our students!  Her captivating storytelling made the characters, setting, and plot come alive.  We are a K-5 school and Kim did an amazing job inspiring, engaging, and entertaining both the student body and staff members.  It was wonderful to see our kiddos & staff smiling, asking questions, and learning through the stories shared with them.  Journey to the Bright Side, Our Best Friend Karma, and the Jamboree Journey have inspired our school readers at every grade level.  We look forward to seeing what comes next.  Thank you Kim.
